PATTS IDOL SEASON X
Powerful Voice, Voguing Move, 10 years in the Groove!
After a hiatus of two years, the PATTS Idol returned for its 10th season during the institution's 55th Founding Anniversary. The talent search competition featured 14 contestants, with seven participants each competing in the singing and dancing categories. The event took place on March 15, 2024, at the A.R. Valdez Hall and was attended by hundreds of supporters and audience members.
In the dancing category, the ATDC (Air Trans Dance Crew) from the BS in Air Transportation Department maintained their unbeaten streak, showcasing graceful performances to the rhythms of African Beats, Reggae Vibes, Electronic World Beats, and Asian Fusion. Meanwhile, the singing competition title went to the BS in Aeronautical Engineering Department, represented by Mr. King Gabriel Hernandez, who captivated the audience with his rendition of "Lay Me Down" by English singer and composer Sam Smith.
Witnessed and evaluated by a skilled panel of judges including Ms. Analyn Rillera and Ms. Llyana Marie Rebosa from the Perpetual Help Chorale, Mr. Carl John Aquino from The Philippine Madrigal Singers and Resound Philippines, and Mr. Jerry Jake Medello, also known as Toxin and Jr Vengeance, from Hybrids of Freedom and VFam, the contestants underwent meticulous scrutiny and assessment.
In the singing category, each contestant received a randomly assigned country from which their performance artist and songs must originate. As for the dance category, each group's performance was required to incorporate musical styles such as Latin Fusion, African Beats, Asian Fusion, Reggae Vibes, European Elegance, Middle Eastern Melodies, Island Grooves, Indigenous inspirations, and Electronic World Beats.
Overall, the event concluded with everyone energetically jiving and dancing on their feet. This cultural competition serves as a prime example of how PATTS encourages students to not only engage academically but also provides opportunities for them to showcase their talents, fostering their competitiveness and confidence. Such activities certainly balances students’ academic and recreational pursuits, motivating them to strive for continuous improvement.
