BUWAN NG WIKA 2024

Makabayang Alagad ng Sining

The advent of the Buwan Ng Wika 2024 celebration on the 30th of August has enticed PATTSeans to gather around the campus and participate in many of the events prepared by the PATTS Achievers League and the Department of Languages. Every August, Filipinos celebrate the love of culture and heritage to honor and pay tribute to the stories, written or spoken, that shape their identity. On this day, the PATTS campus, adorned with the Filipino spirit of celebration, housed a kaleidoscope of activities. From the artistic practice of crafting poems to a celebratory event riddled with textures and colors, Senior High School students came and formed an audience in the lobby for the opening ceremony.

Dr. Marianne Shalimar Del Rosario (Head of the Languages Department and PAL Adviser) blissfully provided the introduction, extending a welcoming greeting from the department and setting the linguistic landscape for the event. Shortly after, Dr. Catherine M. Camposano (SHS Principal) declared the Buwan ng Wika 2024 officially open and wished the best for the students and to enjoy themselves as the day had only just started.

A month dedicated to literature would not be complete without a spotlight on the written arts. By midday, a few students were quietly absorbed in poetry at the library. Seated apart, each was assigned a unique topic to explore, with the only rule being to stay off their phones. As they sound out syllables, analyze line structures, and search for the perfect rhyme, one may discover their clever minds in a friendly competition, their works awaiting appreciation. Meanwhile, by the lower bridge, young people adorned with the beauty of their heritage gathered amidst vibrant artistic banners and dividers, resembling the walls of a fortified space. The female students were dressed in traditional fabrics of graceful hues, while the male students sport intricately stitched garments, all joyfully celebrating Buwan ng Wika.

It is one thing to understand a written piece and another to resonate with the tonality of a person’s voice—songs are just vocal literature, after all. In the afternoon at the PATTS lobby, soulful students performing on stage were witnessed, with Gng. Criselda Desolo (BS TM Instructor), Bb. Ronjane Santillan (PVH Faculty Advisor) , and Bb. Vanessa Bagadiong (PVH Faculty Adviser) as judges of “Patimpalak sa Isahang Pag-awit," and Gng. Kaye Ann Repatacodo attended the performance. Melodic tones accompanied by soothing cheers filled the lobby as students sang the likes of Ligaya and other modern Filipino songs. Either standing with steadfast serenity or gracefully gliding across the stage, each and every vocalist manifested the essence of their composition. Congratulating and providing the certifications to the judges were G. Brian Ben C. Coronel (Research and PACUCOA Affairs Director) and Dr. Del Rosario.

The Awarding Ceremony took place on the following day with a hint of nervousness emanating from those who had participated in the prior events. A thrilling jolt ran through every award-winning participant’s body as their names were announced as winners, being handed with certificates by Dr. Camposano and Dr. Del Rosario. Congratulations to all the awardees and well-done to all for creating lasting memories and enjoying the celebration of Buwan ng Wika 2024. With smiles beaming, the participants radiated joy and excitement. It was a day filled with activities, literature, and meaningful experiences. Every performer and attendee will carry these memories with them into the future.
