And away we go! On September 28, 2024, Aeronautical Engineering students participated in the General Assembly 2024 titled, “AERO’s Formula: Race to Perfection,” held in the Chairman’s Penthouse. Round tables layered upon with colorful runners and folded napkins were arranged on the cardinal red tiles; warm yellow chandeliers lining up a center pathway that meanders to a black stage accessorized with passive speakers, microphones, audience blinders, and a Formula One backdrop—this certainly is one of the biggest event by AERO! With many sporting Formula One merchandise, one might, indeed, think they were at a Grand Prix. The event was attended by a large crowd, including the entire lineup of aeronautical engineering professors and many others.
As the machines arrived at the scene, and while the cars were still warming up, Ms. Althesa Marie Escorial stepped in to warm the attendees' hearts with her gentle invocation. She offered a heartfelt prayer that strengthened their bonds and provided motivation for the journey ahead. Many were quick to take their positions, including Mr. Laurence Albert Aurello, who wore a stunning orange high-visibility vest to highlight the importance of the unsung heroes behind the scenes. Mr. Jermaine Lloyd Oliva sported a black and orange tracksuit, making him look like he had just come from qualifying, while Mr. Simoun Navarro showcased his Lightning McQueen-inspired outfit. Just in time, the esteemed AERO Adviser, Engr. Jason M. Advincula, reminded the students that every day is a pit stop—a moment to fuel our imagination and knowledge, particularly in subjects like aerodynamics and air laws. As we raise each center today, let us embrace the competitive spirit of F1, promoting innovation and striving for excellence.
As the AERO flags wave, a captivating intermission is about to begin. After a gracious address by AERO President Ms. Niña Elisha G. Medina, the participants enjoyed energetic performances set to the infectious rhythms of “Can’t Stop The Feeling” and “Maybe This Time,” presented by the entire student body of the AERO organization. The significance of acknowledging an engineer's mentality was also highlighted.
The event’s esteemed guest, Engr. Eunice Jenn Saludez (Certification and Test Engineering Supervisor at Collins Aerospace), left the participants with a valuable message about staying positive, counting one’s blessings, and not dwelling on one's shortcomings. She quoted the renowned 2018 Miss Universe, Ms. Catriona Gray: “If I can teach people to be grateful, we would have an amazing world where negativity couldn't grow and foster, and children would have smiles on their faces.” Shortly after, Engr.Advincula presented the esteemed guest with a certificate of appreciation for her distinguished presence.
The drivers are lined up on the grid, and Talentadong Aero kicks off with a bang! AeroE Instructors Engr. Ron Christian Earl Florentino and Engr. Vincent Frank Nasiad, along with Mr. Julius Robert Reyes, served as exceptional judges for the event. The band Hiraya, featuring Gabriel Bernandez on rhythm guitar, Zeidred Bago as the lead guitarist, Chleyde Danguilan on drums, AJ Omoso on bass, and Larrahlei Castillo as the vocalist, took pole position in Q3—being the first to perform and finishing 3rd overall! Not far behind, the masked performers showcased their wild yet dazzling movements, securing the 1st runner-up spot! Lastly, two ballerinas made their mark as they danced their way to the championship title with their unique costumes and captivating performance!
The invited band, Over October, delivered an energetic performance that had every student's heart racing. Their songs resonated with those who pretend to have moved on and those spending Christmas alone, offering solace and understanding through their rock melodies and upbeat tones. Despite this, they invited students to join them on stage for one final encore, and participants thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It seems that Over October may have gained a few new fans for their album, Make Believe!
The starting grid certainly lives up to its name! Moving on to the next event, we have Race to Perfection! A swift shower of accolades follows Wesley Yabut as he is recognized for his impressive high-speed performance in the game, securing the title. As he crosses the finish line with the sleek yellow McLaren, the checkered flag waves in celebration of his remarkable achievement.
Speaking of elegance and achievements, a symphony of applause and cheers surrounds the Mr. and Ms. Aero 2024 with their radiant presence. The BS AeroE Department extends its sincere gratitude to the judges: Engr. Vench C. Del Rosario (BS AeroE Vice Chairperson), Ms. Ylaisa Mendoza (PATTS Alumna), and Mr. Von David Angelo Vallejos (Mr. Aero 2023). Congratulations to Mr. John Rayne Alano, a man whose charm rivals the starry night, and Ms. Spica Mae Samante, whose beauty surpasses the celestial glow of angels. Mr. Simon Dwayne was also acknowledged as he confidently walked away with three awards.
The event serves as a commemoration of the efforts of every aeronautical engineering student, showcasing their tireless endeavors. Aspiring aviators come together for a day of celebration, weaving a tapestry of memories for all who enjoy the occasion. "Fly high, Seahorses," as this day gently reminds us of our lofty aspirations and ardent ambitions.
