AAMT’s Seminar on Chartering A320 Practices on Cabin Maintenance
As part of PATTS’ mission of becoming the center of excellence in aviation education, the institution is committed to producing graduates who are employment-ready and equipped with practical and theoretical knowledge in their chosen fields. With this said, the Alliance of Aircraft Mechanics and Troubleshooters (AAMT) hosted a one-day seminar at the campus Audio-Visual Room last April 20, 2024 tackling the basics of cabin maintenance practices conducted in an Airbus A320.
The Keynote Speaker, Engr. Kenneth Rene Ian M. Talag, holds multiple aviation bachelor degrees, particularly BS in Aircraft Maintenance Technology and BS in Aeronautical Engineering. A graduate of PhilSCA, he was also the top-notcher in the 2010 Aeronautical Engineering Licensure Examination. Currently, he works as Senior Airframe and Powerplant Technical Instructor II at Singapore International Airlines Engineering Philippines (SIAEP).
One of the most dominant aircraft used by commercial airlines is the Airbus A320. It has established a strong reputation in the commercial aviation industry, making it known for its efficiency and reliability. With a large number of airline companies acquiring the said aircraft, maintenance companies have to be prepared to provide repair and maintenance services. Engr. Talag’s discussion revolved around this topic as he presided over the AAMT’s Seminar on Chartering A320 Practices on Cabin Maintenance and Alteration Requirements. In his discussion, he was able to share real-life scenarios of how they conduct repair and maintenance operations in an aircraft.
The seminar was divided into two parts. At the beginning, Engr. Talag dissects the cabin layout of an A320. Through his visual presentation, he toured the participants around the parts of the aircraft that are usually hidden from common passengers. From the captain’s seats to the avionics compartment, he discussed the importance of every intricate piece found in the aircraft, which surely fascinated every participant. By the end of the first part of the seminar, the officers of the AAMT prepared a “4-pics, 1-word” game to refresh the minds of the attendees. Shortly after a quick ice-breaker game, the seminar resumes where they dive deep into various cabin maintenance tasks handed out to aircraft mechanics. In this part of the discussion, Engr. Talag shared his experiences in the field and how each part of the aircraft has varying maintenance services. More so, Engr. Talag gave emphasis on safety precautions being upheld on the field when conducting such repairs. He stated that “safety is always a priority” regardless of how easy or how hard the task is.
In the end, a certificate of appreciation is handed out to Engr. Talag. It was presented by Mr. Joselito N. Biera (Chairperson of BS Aircraft Maintenance Technology and Aircraft Technician Course). It was then followed by a short closing message by Mr. Vincent Miguel Estropia (Project Head, A Mechanic’s Handbook), where he expressed his gratitude to all the attendees for their participation and to the AAMT members who made the event to fruition.
