NAVIGATING THE SKIES

Exploring the Dynamics of Airport Operations

Amidst the weave of an ever-expanding sky, the PATTS Guild of Air Transportation Students (GATS) embarked the participants on a journey through the boundless skies. They navigated them to the horizon of aviation excellence with the “Cleared for departure: Mastering the Art of Efficient Airport Operations” seminar, held at the PATTS Audio-Visual Room (AVR) on November 11, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

The event commenced with moderators Mr. Angelo Asuncion and Mr. Lawrence Ray Santos (BS Air Transportation students) introducing Mr. Sergei Doverte (Project Head) for his opening remarks. Subsequently, the first speaker, Mr. Eric Narvaez (International Trip Planning Specialist), delved into the coordination required between different departments in ground operations. He outlined key activities encompassing pre-flight, flight briefing, flight monitoring, and post-flight tasks for ground operators.

Stressing the importance of maintaining a courteous demeanor, even in challenging situations with passengers, Mr. Narvaez advised aspiring ground operators to always display gentleness and politeness. He engaged with the audience during a Q&A session, addressing queries about the role of ground operators and concluded his speech with the quote, "We can't handle everything, but we can fight for everything." Following Mr. Narvaez's presentation, there was a brief intermission featuring an entertainment segment where a guest performer took the stage with their singing prowess.

The second speaker, Capt. Earl Martin Pimentel, an Experienced Pilot in command, presented the fundamentals of navigation and flight planning. He elaborated the role of a flight dispatcher and the responsibilities that come with it. Through his expertise, he actively involved the participants, who asked insightful questions, enhancing their understanding of the subject matter. Both speakers received a certificate and token of appreciation from GATS.

The event served as an invaluable platform for attendees to gain profound insights into various facets of the aviation industry. It ended with a blastful joy seen in the participants’ faces, notifying the knowledge and entertainment they got throughout the seminar.
