Forty-two tourism student contenders from the plethora of schools around the Philippines battled each other with nationalistic style, upped with great poise and wit in the Kasuotang Pinoy Category of the 15th Annual National Tourism and Hospitality Students’ Congress and Skills Olympics last April 24 and 25, 2023 at the University of Sto. Tomas. This event was organized by the Union of Filipino Tourism Students (UFTS) and Union of Filipino Tourism Educators (UFTE). The UFTS is known to organize a long-standing competition of Tourism and Hospitality skills making them known as the “Mother of All Competitions” in the field. The event aimed to exhibit the talents and capabilities of students through 13 different categories with PATTS joining six (6) competitions, and one of them was the Kasuotang Pinoy – a fashion show that promotes Filipino culture.
Putting the spotlight on the one who brought home the bacon, Ms. Suyhen Luxnie Del Rosario, a 3rd year BSTM student, was crowned champion of the Kasuotang Pinoy - Female Category. She has definitely put on an impressive show in her beautiful and well-thought-out costume made of indigenous materials - abaca and rattan, with “kalabaw at palay” as the primary detailing materials, which represents the hard-working farmers of our country. She graced the stage with great composition and dominated the question and answer portion with keenness and without faltering.
Truly, Ms. Del Rosario is an embodiment of BS Tourism Management’s motto, #GandaGalingTalino. Kudos to you for bringing honor to the school!
