AIR TRANSPORTATION ON-THE-GO

Optimizing Flight Operations: Navigating Human Factors for Safety and Efficiency

Given the opportunity to gather additional knowledge about their program, the students of the BS Air Transportation (BS AT) took a significant leap in their field as two veterans in the aviation industry generously allotted their time to guide and let the students explore the glimpse of their future career path. In the recent seminar organized by the PATTS Guild of Air Transportation Students (GATS) last October 28, 2023 at the Audio Visual Room (AVR), a career-centered gathering took place, navigating the right path for the students to reach their destination.

Mr. Mark Denver R. Talan (Former PATTS Instructor and a current Flight Coordinator - Jetex) gave a fun and informative discussion about his experience within the scope of flight operations. He delivered his important takeaways as he endeavored to reach where he is now. From the basics of flight operations, such as the different types of clients that the future air transportation professionals have to deal with, to the complex management of different flights - the students indeed had a fruitful experience and interacted with the speaker through the question and answer portion.

Safety, being the top priority in the aviation industry, also took the spotlight in the seminar. With his massive amount of experience in the realm of flight training, Mr. Dennis E. Ortiz (Flight Training Division Training Manager - Philippine Airlines Express) emphasized the importance of safety and how to achieve being cautious in every action. He introduced the four pillars of Safety Management System (SMS) and their respective 12 elements. Among the diverse topics, he highlighted the contribution of human factors in promoting safety, which include Safety Policy and Objectives, Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance, and Safety Promotion have been tackled.

It was indeed a fulfilling seminar for the future aviation professionals as they are now equipped with wisdom and knowledge from the experts themselves. This will serve as a vehicle for them to overcome the fears they might encounter along their  journey. According to some, fear is what hinders achievers from reaching their goals, but with this seminar, fear has just left the minds of the Seahorses.
