Transcendence to Aeronautics: Rise of Airports

Engr. Alfred Rogero - Resource Speaker

The Guild of Air Transportation Students (GATS) spearheaded a webinar entitled, “Transcendence to Aeronautics: Rise of Airports” via Zoom meeting on Saturday. Engr. Alfred Rogero who’s based in San Miguel, Bulacan, the resource speaker of the said webinar, focused on three (3) topics: Airport Productivity, Airport Classifications, and Eco-Friendly Airports.

With Airport Productivity, most airports assess performance simply in financial terms, focusing solely on total expenses and revenues, as well as the ensuing surpluses and deficits. Then, he further discussed sub-topics such as Transportation Systems, Business Processes, Revenue Sources, and Sustainable Growth of Airports.

Airport Classifications, on the other hand, have five (5) roles that are being utilized — National, Regional, Local, Basic, and Unclassified. They are needed for the purpose of stipulating geometric design standards for the various types of airports and the functions which they serve.

The third topic was about Eco-Friendly Airports.  He elaborated that airports all across the world now understand the value of becoming green. Airports are massive structures that use a lot of energy. In fact, people who travel by plane on occasion have a substantially greater carbon footprint. Keeping this issue in mind, governments worldwide are developing environmentally-friendly airports - thus, making an attempt to make air travel more environmentally-friendly, too. Even old popular airports are now modifying their designs to incorporate eco-friendly measures, and numerous new buildings are built in accordance with the most recent sustainability requirements.

Indeed, the webinar itself overflowed with sustaining knowledge that embarked to the participants’ minds. And yet again, this would not be possible without the collective effort of the GATS as they again achieved another milestone in their legacy.
