THE STARS SPARKLE AT MIDA'S

27th Grand THM General Assembly 2022

In the heat of the moment, the spirit of surreality was ignited. Spearheaded by the BS Tourism Management Department, in cooperation with the PATTS Tourism Society (PTS), a sparkling and dazzling day in Mida’s Hotel and Casino in Pasay City paved the way for a Met Gala-themed General Assembly entitled, "Category is... Fashionista Eleganza Extravaganza! The 27th Grand THM General Assembly" on October 23, 2022. Ross Jayson Basilonia from the PATTS Seahorse Network (PSN) and Andrea Santos from the PATTS Tourism Society (PTS) hosted the event.

The event commenced at exactly two in the afternoon with prestigious BS TM executives and students that walked along the red carpet, showcasing their well-stylized gowns, suits, and ties. Mr. John Ericson A. Policarpio, MBA, CEE, and CTP (BS Tourism Management Program Chairperson) was in his star-studded black attire that also pumped hype and excitement for the program. Also present were Dr. Emelita I. Javier (VP for Student Affairs), Engr. Denis M. Desolo (BS Aeronautical Engineering Program Chairperson), together with Mrs. Maria Criselda Desolo (BS TM Instructor), Mr. Alvin M. Moralde (PATTS Tourism Society Adviser), and BS TM Faculty, Ms. Shirley V. Bron and Ms. Jelin Zyma Cacapit.

To commence the event, Ms. Jemalyn M. Dioso (PTS Secretary and Co-Project Head) delivered her opening remarks saying, "This event is created especially for you—embarking on your journey shall be memorable.” Mr. Policarpio also shared, “I could never do this without the unending support of the THM faculty, not to mention the piles of excuse letters”.  He  then addressed the agenda for the academic year stating that, "It’s very surreal, and I’m very happy that tourism is now alive—what better way for me to celebrate than the 246 young minds who will claim the victory of PATTS and tourism hospitality?" Following his vigorous speech, he showcased his surprise that tourism is going out-of-town this academic year.

A dynamic intermission number from the PTS Officers and Advisory Board danced their hearts out before the show went on.  Then, the in-house speaker was introduced by Ms. Desolo. Ms. Mary Grace Sumugat is an alumna of PATTS and is now a DOT-accredited Tour Guide. She explained how the tourism industry plays a big role in any industry, "Not only does it employ a lot of people, it also pays very well," she mentioned. Afterwards, Ms. Cacapit presented the Certificate of Appreciation to Ms. Sumugat, thanking her for gracing the gathering with her presence and for sharing a message that inspired the BS TM students. Before moving on to the second segment of the event, a mouth-watering buffet was prepared for the guests.

While Mr. Johnel Balderas serenaded the Big Fashionistas, the night continued to be full of surprises.  Ms. Dioso then announced the special awards for the event and the winners were: Ms. Mary Gawaran (Face of the Night), Ms. Joy Rose Joba (Best Outfit), Ms. Mary Gleann G. Gawaran (Queen of the Night), and Mr. Jansen Dizon (King of the Night). To signify the brotherhood and sisterhood of the tourism students, the pinning ceremony was then held to highlight the event.

To end the assembly, Ms. Sofia Mikaela Castillo (PTS Treasurer and Project Head) gave her closing remarks to show appreciation for everyone’s attendance. This paved the way for the most-awaited part, the open dance floor. Then came the curtain call, which cemented the memorable night with THM’s motto, "Galing, Ganda, at Talino!"
