PATTS College of Aeronautics has more stories to tell about successes and victories ever since 1969. Reminiscing the events that happened on March 5, 2022, watching the metaphorical golden wings of every Aeronautical and Industrial Engineering Board Passers of 2021, has been the paradigm of the late Engr. and Atty. Ambrosio Valdez Sr.’s commitment on why he established the institution in the first place— providing quality education, training, and experiences to the PATTS community.

Now, to celebrate the countless trophies acquired in the last five decades, it is more than just right to celebrate the “Testimonial High Tea” to commemorate the hard work of the esteemed Seahorses that brought pride to the institution.

Signaling another historical event was determined by the presence of the ever-inspiring Madame Ma. Felisa Valdez (Vice Chair and Chief Finance Officer), Engr. Jose Eduardo S. Valdez (College President and COO), and the Board Trustees: Dr. Ambrosio Emilio Valdez III, Mr. Ramon Dumlao Jr., Dr. Ana Mercedes Gatmaytan, Atty. Anna Katrina Cruz, Ms. Jennifer Charlotte Orola, and Ms. Ma. Rosa Josefina D. Fresnido. Also present was the special guest, Mr. Greg Fresnido.

“You will serve as an inspiration to the future Aeronautical and Industrial Engineering students,” Engr. Joy Cosme Amores Jr. said in his boosting opening remarks. An impactful phrase that goes across the screens to those watching via Zoom and to those present in the event.

Among the products and pride of the institution was Engr. Allain Chris Mojica, who delivered his inspirational message where every word he spoke equates his pride to being part of the PATTSean legacy. He wholeheartedly told his journey of how he graduated, passed the board exam, and how he continues on creating history on becoming an Associate ASEAN Engineer, and a proud alumnus of PATTS.

It is here, and it is time. Atty. Cruz initiated the presentation of new engineers, henceforth, called the board passers up-front to be truly recognized. Their pursuit, along with other seahorses that came before, has continued to prove the institution’s urge to excellence shown by PATTS’ production of world-class engineers, especially to Engr. Edward Lewis Ramos (AERO 4th Placer), Engr. Paul Daniel Gabato (AERO 5th Pacer), Engr. Deomary Angelo Franco (AERO 7th Placer), and Engr. Jameson Louis Del Rio ( IE 9th Placer).

Everyone holding their wine glass, ready to hear the satisfying clanging sound of success–this is it, the much-awaited toast commenced that was led by Engr. Valdez. Their golden wings have been sentimental as seen by him, as they were once young Seahorses whose potentials were yet to be harnessed. Cheers! — It is that word that filled the lobby with laughter and greetings–seen prevalent in the grins on their face, indeed a wonderful sight.

“Life is not always rainbows and butterflies, you need to be prepared for what's more to come,” emotional statements that gushed through the valedictorian speech of Engr. Del Rio. Struggles that have been conquered are something that everyone should be proud of as what he emphasized.

On the same note, Engr. Ramos also gave a speech that mirrored his confidence and wisdom. He maneuvered his statements by personifying things such as aircraft materials, to name a few, saying: “We display what we are made of,” saying that we can be resilient, tough, and brittle during difficult times.

Grooves and melodies also moved the ambiance by virtual performances by the PATTS Vocal Harmony (PVH) and PATTS Dance Company (PDC), and the warmest greetings and congratulatory messages from the PATTS Academic Community also happened during the duration of the event.

Continuous success is what the institution is known for. Besides, PATTS College of Aeronautics has been the best Aeronautical College of all time. Its Aeronautical Engineering Program is the only program recognized by the country at any accrediting educational agency to attain Level III status as certified by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines (FAAP). The Industrial Engineering Program also took PACUCOA accreditation focusing on certain factors, moving a step forward as well.

The traditional lighting of the torch held by Engr. Jose Eduardo S. Valdez (College President and COO), along with Jameson Louis Del Rio ( IE 9th Placer) and Edward Lewis Ramos (AERO 4th Placer) at PATTS Open Court

You see, we are that Seahorse that stands firm to the values etched in our hearts. Talent, brains, and involvement are what we simply represent. The Ceremonial Toast is not the only event that happened on March 5, but also the ALAB Tradition entitled “Gabi ng Pagkilala sa mga Bagong Inhinyero”, where we witnessed their bright diligence at dawn, a tradition to celebrate hard-earned victories for the PATTS’ fresh engineers.

Everyone heard the roaring beat of the drums not long after. The surreal feeling continued to intensify as they marched towards the Volleyball court, the location where they had lit the torch so high that everyone could see. Endless recognitions of top notchers and passers flooded the screens of many to those who watched live via Zoom Meeting. Then, from the distance after a few announcements commenced, came a banner that opened up saying: “Mabuhay ang PATTSino Inhinyero,” an emotional plot of the event.

Drums continued to beat and there it was, the traditional water salute plumed the banner forming an arch on both sides — a tradition celebrating gratitude, honor, and respect. These occasions are also conducted to honor veterans. And now, to the board passers who fought challenges behind the facade before they even claimed the crown of being called Engineer.

The sun has finally kissed the horizon, the time where we visually saw the bright light from the torch held by Engr. Valdez, Engr. Del Rio, and Engr. Ramos. As they walked towards the giant torch, other board passers were on the side facing parallel to one another, holding a sparkler firework that mirrored their passion–a concrete and abstract representation of what they are as Seahorses. It was almost in fact that it was not the fire that we saw, but their burning passion that ignited the whole space as they went towards it. They lit the giant torch, slowly burning even brighter that reflected on their faces— another ALAB tradition had commenced, and another generation of engineers was written in the history of the PATTS College of Aeronautics.

Sizzles and Whoops! The fireworks that had flashed in front of them. The productive day had ended with smiles on their faces that could be seen far from the universe. We then answer the question, “What are we as seahorses?” Well, the events that happened said it all. We are that Seahorse that is yet to experience an amazing feat, and that Seahorse that genuinely follows their footsteps and waves the banner high. PATTS had never failed to mold their students and community with heads morally upright, and produce successes birthed from perseverance and hard work. With this in mind, it is our time to continue the legacy saying: ‘Padayon PATTSino!’, in every step of the way.

PATTS College President and COO, Engr. Jose Eduardo S. Valdez, delivers his best wishes for the Aero and IE Board Passers of 2021
