ONBOARDING:

Challenge Full of High Hopes

New and fresh faces of BS Air Transportation students from first year to third year levels, together with a few alumni, were gathered during the first-ever face-to-face GATS event entitled, “ONBOARDING: Transitioning to the Next Phase” last August 27, 2022 at The Chairman’s Penthouse. This event was also live streamed on the same day via the Facebook Page of the Guild of Air Transportation Students.

The program started with a heartwarming inspirational message from Ms. Melizza Leigh Q. Salamatin (GATS Adviser) about her experiences during college at PATTS. She also mentioned that in life, there will always be ups and downs. The new learning set-up this academic year challenges us to determine the things that we can change. In fact, the hybrid set-up trains us to achieve more in life. “Everybody must remember that the virus is still around us. Let us be aware at all times,” ending her speech with a good luck encouragement to students.

Mr. Viv Wilson Grepo (BS Air Transportation Instructor) also shared some guidelines in order to be familiarized with what it is like to be an Air Transportation student. He discussed the history of the GATS and the career opportunities for future graduates in terms of flight operations.

Alumni graduates, Mr. Paul James Escobar and Mr. Hyron S. Tejada also gave a quick talk about their galactic and fun experience as active members of the GATS organization and as a PATTS student. Additional tips on how to handle college life were also shared by Mr. Harvic John Mathis (GATTS Vice President - External). “Always strive to do one hundred percent for that day. Take this time to realize that we are now college students. Just relax, enjoy and there will always be a next day to learn and catch up because that’s the way of life.”

To make the event more exciting, the GATS prepared raffle draws and games for the students. They also welcomed the performances of the PATTS Royal Cavalry, PATTS Dance Company and PATTS Vocal Harmony during the event.

As the gathering finally came to an end, Mr. Franz Luigi Soriano (GATS President) stepped up for his closing remarks as he encouraged the students to join the GATS organization and be ready for the future events that await - “Work hard, [and] strive hard as we embark on the challenges full of high hopes.”
