Elimination
Each member of the team will
take an individual exam during the eliminations. One member
of the team will take the Mathematics exam (which includes algebra,
geometry, trigonometry, statistics, calculus, and recreational
math), another member will take the Physics exam, and the remaining
member will take the General Information exam (which includes
current issues and geography). The Elimination round will be
from 9:15 to 10:15am at the College Library.
Calculators: Contestants are
not allowed to use calculators.
Questions: Questions about
the problems may be addressed to the proctors assigned to the
room. These questions will be limited to clarifications regarding
the given factors or the validity of the question. Questions
about how to solve the problem or about the final answers will
not be entertained. Persistent questioning may lead to disqualification.
Cellular Phones, Pagers and PDA's:
All cellular phones should be turned off and properly endorsed
to their coaches, for the duration of the exam. Violators will
cause their or their team’s disqualification.
Going Out of the Exam Room:
Examinees are not allowed to go out of the exam room once the
exam starts. Once an examinee goes out, he/she will not be allowed
to return to the exam room. For this reason, the contestants
are encouraged to go to the comfort rooms before the exam starts.
Talking: Talking is not allowed
between and among contestants. Contestants may report to the
proctors any other participant who acts in a manner that disturbs
them. Cheat sheets are not allowed and will be confiscated.
This shall also be basis for a contestant’s disqualification.
Violations: If a student is
found to break a rule that is stated above, that student’s
team is disqualified and immediately eliminated from the contest.
End of Exam: After the exam
time is over, the papers will be collected and checked by the
proctors. The students will be allowed to go out and take lunch.
Advancing
to the Final Round
The 8 teams who get the highest
accumulated scores of their respective team members during the
Elimination Round will advance to the Final Round. No scores
will be announced, nor will the order of the top eight teams
be announced. However, top 3 individual scorers will be given
recognition.

Average and Difficult.

The 8 teams will be positioned on the stage,
one table per team with 3 members. No substitutions will be
allowed. If an emergency occurs and a member/s must leave the
team, the team will have to compete undermanned.
Calculators are not allowed.
Each round is composed of 12 questions, 4 each
from the three categories: mathematics, physics, and general
information.
Scores after the easy round will be carried
over to the next round.
After the easy round, only 5 teams out of the 8 finalists will
proceed to the average round. The 6th, 7th and/or 8th team may
have the chance to participate in the average round if and only
if they are tied with the 5th placer (e.g. CASE 1: Team A and
Team B have the same score and occupy 5th and 6th places, Team
C and Team D is one point short of Team A’s and B’s
score and is in the 7-8th spot. Only Teams C and D will be eliminated.
CASE 2: Teams A, B, C and D share slot nos. 5, 6, 7 and 8. No
team will be eliminated.).
Scores after the average round will be carried
over to the next round.
After the average round, only 3 teams out of the 5 finalists
will proceed to the difficult round. The 4th or 5th team can
only have the chance to participate in the difficult round if
and only if they are tied with the 3rd placer. (The procedure
in the preceding round will be followed in case of tie.)
The question number and category will be announced
by the 5th Q-WIZ Master. The 5th Q-WIZ Master will then read
the question twice. The teams may start solving for the answer
as soon as the question is read. After the 2nd reading of the
question, the time allotted for the question will begin. The
teams will write their final answer on the given material. In
case of multiple-choice questions, the letter of choice will
suffice.
Once the time limit for the question has been
exhausted, the teams must display their answer to the judges
and the scorekeeper. The teams that get the correct answer will
get the corresponding points for that question. No partial points
will be given.
Any complaints or problems about the questions
will be addressed to the judges right after the answer to the
question in issue is given and right before the reading of the
next question. The judges must make a decision regarding the
problem posed by the team. The judges’ decision is final.
Once the judges have decided, the game will proceed to the next
question. If the question passes uncontested, or if no problems
were found in the question, the game proceeds to the next question.
Cellular phones will be prohibited in the final
round. Any student found with or even more, using his/her phone
will get his/her team disqualified. It is preferred that any
communication device be turned off and left in the custody of
their companions in the audience.
The teams can only go to the comfort rooms in
between rounds. Talking between two teams during the time a
question is being answered is prohibited. If any rule is broken
by the student, that student’s team is disqualified upon
the judges’ decision.
The winner of the 5th Q-WIZ will be the team
that has accumulated the most points at the end of the Final
Round. The rankings of the other teams will also depend on the
score they accumulated.
